Capitol Asset Recovery, Inc (http://www.capasset.com), of Beltsville, MD has been recommended for an essential industry-wide environmental certification for its green performance credentials. The Responsible Recycling Practices for Electronics Recyclers (R2) certification will be conferred on its facility in Beltsville, MD. This new standard, supported by major electronic OEM’s, the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), public interest groups, the US EPA, US state and local governments, is a stringent set of requirements for electronics recyclers. The standard includes requirements for environmental, worker health and safety, and security practices.
Capitol Asset Recovery, Inc. is now the first and only Metro Washington, DC-based Electronics Recycling Company to have been recommended for this certification. “As we continue to expand both our Federal and Private IT Asset Recovery and Recycling practices, being recommended for our R2 Certification is truly a game changer for us. It is a proper value added service we can combine with our GSA Contract for the physical destruction of electronic media to continue to support our Federal clients,” said Vice President Zack Boorstein. “It asserts us as a leader in industry developments which complement our environment.”
On March 1, 2012, the General Services Administration released a bulletin that bans federal agencies from disposing of used electronics in landfills or incinerators. The bulletin also directs agencies to send electronics that are no longer functioning to third-party certified recyclers, which will increase business for the e-waste industry.
Companies will have to perform downstream monitoring in accordance with the certifications they hold. In addition to restricting the landfilling of all electronic scrap, the new guidelines direct all electronics to be delivered to electronics recyclers that are certified to the R2 (Responsible Recycling Practices) standard.
“The fact that most Federal agencies are headquartered inside of the Capitol Beltway, and that Capitol Asset Recovery, Inc. will be the only R2 Certified Company in the DC Metro area, it is substantial news. We will be the only option for a profitable solution for most of the Federal government to dispose of their electronics locally,” said Chris Scott, CEO and Owner of Capitol Asset Recovery, Inc. “We offer a tailored solution for our customers including on-site inspections and valuations of materials and provide pickups for all of our customers.”
Capitol Asset Recovery, Inc. already handles a lot of Federal agency electronics working both directly for Agencies and also as a subcontractor to a lot of the Government Contractors. This eventual government mandate will direct more Beltway business to Capitol Asset Recovery.
“Having a local service provider that purchases our assets, and arranges logistics in a few hours notice beats any other service we could think of. Their integrity and ability to purchase equipment is something that we value here at Citrix,” said Michelle Tranter of Citrix Systems.
