When I think about Earth Day, I am so glad that I am working for a company that actively is helping the environment through electronics recycling. I thought that it would be a good idea to show case not only mine, but other employees ideas on what Earth Day means to them.
Tim Hilton (THIS GUY)
Growing up as a kid I remember doing the average Earth Day events like planting trees, tending gardens, making projects out of recycled stuffs etc. To be honest I found it to be almost a chore. I was a kid and didn’t want to plant trees, I wanted to climb them. So for the longest time I did not really care about the environment.
I would obviously recycle when I could and not litter, however there is so much more to it. I understand that people have only so much time to devote to one thing or another, trust me if there was a way for me to not need sleep or freeze time I would be right there. However to be truly part of the effort while working at Capitol Asset is something I truly cherish in my life. I am able to go to work every day and say that I am doing something worthwhile, and worthwhile.
If I can help just a few people to feel the way I feel now about the work I do and the environment I will feel like I truly accomplished something. Maybe not with this blog post or maybe not even this year, but to be able to show someone the joy that truly caring about the place most people take for granted? That is worth trying every day for me.
This year is my first Earth Day of the company, and I cannot overstate how excited I am to be able to help you all with your E-Cycling drives and Campaigns.
Zack Boorstein (Vice President)
I remember an activity of making cardboard cutouts in arts and crafts class in elementary school that said “Earth Day is Everyday” they were a globe on a stick with cotton balls as clouds – ironically I now work for a recycling company with the sole purpose of keeping electronics and heavy metals out of landfills. I know I am doing my part.
Ethan Hubbard (The man behind the scenes)
Our first major campaign was working with a client, and making arrangements for over 50 locations.
It required team effort to complete as the logistics for each location were unique and required a lot of information sharing to get everything completed on a tight deadline. It feels rewarding knowing the service we provide people, has a positive impact on the environment.
Lisa Ambrusko(Alexandria Store Manager)
Earth Day has come along way from where I stand. I remember the “Crying Indian” to fight Litter pollution; and as a girl scout we had the annual Plant a Tree day, but that was about as Green as it got. Today we are all so more aware and concerned for our planet and it is because of Green campaigns and other like movements now around the world. Honestly, the whole Idea of Earth Day reminds me of Robert and how much he loved being outside, hiking and biking and communing with nature. I think he would be proud of all us doing our part everyday.
Melissa (Office Assistant)
Earth day reminds me to recycle, conserve energy and in general live greener.
Chris Scott (CEO)
Earth Day for me is something that has crept into my life, but makes me smile each year when I think that the everyone is yet again thinking about the planet and how we impact it. I love the outdoors and spend as much time enjoying it as I possibly can. When I grew up nobody thought of the environment, but then there weren’t so many cars and life seemed less about consumption and more about living. In today’s society we are expected to keep up with our neighbours and have the newest and latest technology, these help keep us informed and educated, but it is amazing to me how quickly our needs and expectations change.
I am happy and proud to be running a company that can address this by providing a solution and outlet for all the unwanted equipment whilst providing an avenue for the reuse of these.
All of you who are choosing to read this post and recycle your electronics responsibly have our eternal gratitude and thanks. We are here every day, ready, to help you with your E-Waste and I implore you to take advantage of our willingness to serve, and passion for the environment.

In impoverished countries around the world people put their lives on the line unnecessarily while recycling E-waste.
This article uses cable burning as one of many examples of health damaging E-Waste techniques. This really is where the R2 standard practices that Capitol Asset employs really benefits mankind. We know where all of our recyclable materials end up and with whom. Capitol Asset is dedicated to ensuring that E-waste is taken care of properly. You can rest assured that when you deal with Capitol Asset you are dealing with a company that holds itself, and its partner companies, to the highest standards.

We here at Capitol Asset Recycling hope that everyone had a great start to their New Year!
What better way to kick off the new year then with some awesome tech news! http://dvice.com/archives/2013/01/tobii-rex-bring.php
Apparently Tobii is nearly ready for full scale production of its gaze tracking hardware. This Hardware will alleviate the need for a mouse by simply tracking your pupils around the screen and having them be the pointer. While I will always like to have a mouse on hand to play games or whatever else, others may find this new hardware indispensable. Check out the new hardware at Dvice.com!

Yesterday was America Recycles Day and across the country hundreds of recycling drives were held. Including a few by us!
We collected thousands of pounds of electronics waste from Maryland, Virginia, and the District! I personally was all over Maryland and DC participating in the drives and even loaded my van full of scrap electronics to haul back here as all of our trucks were filled with equipment! Needless to say it was a lot of fun and a great day for E-Cycling awareness!
I would like to thank all of our partners across the area for making this day a great success and spreading the word!
America Recycles Day is not the only day when E-Cycling events can be held, if you are interested in hosting an event head on over to the contact us page and send us some information!

Intel has now proclaimed that in under 10 years our smart phones will be powered by 48 core processors. Just to put this into prospective, most are currently running on 4 cores… that means this will be 12 times as good right?
Unimaginable apps will certainly follow, 3D imaging perhaps for those 3D printers?

With the release of the new iPad mini Apple has made the infant iPad 3 defunct over night. It’s smaller and lighter frame combined with out powering the 3 has seen that the iPad mini is ready to kick some butt.
But whose derierre is the one getting kicked?
Obviously the kindle fire etc. will see some hard times, but what about Apple beginning to alienate their own consumer base by simply making their own products obsolete every 6 months. As an owner of a few Apple Products (2 MacBooks and an iPad 2) I am truly beginning to think so.
I was completely fine with them obsoleting their own equipment every couple of years, or heck, every year. Every six months though? That is just too much for me financially and to be honest mentally. I want to be able to figure out all the nooks and crannies of a device before I lose interest and am ready for a new toy. For example, my phone I have had now for four months and I still find new uses for it all the time ( I had been considering upgrading to the iPhone 4s lucky me I didn’t). I believe that a lot of people will be heading this way as well, especially when the iPhone 5 didnt quite live up to expectations and perhaps if they had spent a little more time on it, it would actually be better than the galaxy.
However, If you are one of those people that have to have a half eaten apples on all of your technology then go for it. Me personally? I’m jumping off this band wagon and heading home to the embrace of Microsoft… look what you have done.

That’s correct the windows 8 OS is coming soon to a computer near you. So what does that mean? What does it do? WHY IS MY COMPUTER BEHAVING LIKE A PHONE?!? let’s find out shall we?
So what is the upside of Windows 8? There really are some pretty awesome features. First, security has been given a massive steroid injection. second, with the proliferation of touchscreen technology, this OS is more than ready to handle it. Lastly, when you are in desktop, it looks awesome.
So whats wrong with it? IT TURNS MY COMPUTER INTO A CELL PHONE FOR ONE THING. Yes it does indeed. Instead of going to the desktop like a good OS, it instead goes to an app screen. Why a computer should have apps you ask? I don’t know I answer.
Now I know one of you is going to want to say “uhhh technically all of your programs are applications and hence apps”… to that person… know what I mean.
SOO getting off my rant, Windows 8 has the usual problems that new Windows OS’s have. It is meant for higher end machines forcing others to upgrade (good for us). It really is meant for touch capability so desktops might suffer a bit off aggravation when trying to get into desktop mode.
But all in all I am really excited for the OS and maybe… just maybe someone will crack it so that we can just boot into desktop.
