Disaster in Utah

For those unfamiliar, the Basel Action Network is a watchdog group that specializes in global environmental justice and economic inefficiency of toxic trade . On Friday they sent out a bulletin on an ecological disaster in Utah.

A recycler based in Utah experienced a fire which led to disastrous conditions due to the presence of CRT glass, dioxins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and heavy metals. The subsequent investigation by the Basel Action Network (BAN) has led to alarming discoveries at this, and other sites, operated by the recycler. Outdoor storage of CRTs, no securing of the fire site, CRT glass being allowed to enter the soil, and other environmental and health hazards to name a few.
